Alright, I'm going to throw my 2 cents in here. I'm not "wired-in" at all, but know some people who might be on the outskirts. I think BD was at least a possibility when Archie was hired, but IU did not want to let him finish the NBA season out in order to make it happen (it probably wasn't a sure thing even in June). It would be a hard thing for a team to get BD straight out of the NBA. I think he would have to NOT be coaching for a year, then come back to the college game the next year.

Stevens considered it when he was COACHING the Celtics (remember that almost-teary-eyed press conference in Utah when the Celts were playing the Jazz?), but was soon promoted into administration and isn't leaving THAT gig for awhile, for anyone.
IMO, if we would have had a legit chance at either BS or BD, but didn't wait until their NBA seasons were over to make a deal, that is horrifically short sighted. You "throw away" a year in order to land a BD or a BS.

Honestly that seems like the most likely answer. They just weren't interested in coaching college ball any more. If they were, we would likely have agreed to terms. We are not a small school with no ability to put a compelling offer together.
And it's not like they are out there coaching some other team instead. They aren't coaching anywhere, because they don't want to coach.

no I don't think only money will do it. How the program is run , who makes what decisions, commitment to facilities , NIL, assistant coaches .., or whatever else their demands may be. Name whatever coach you want to insert ... I'll bet we didn't do what it took nor likely did we even contact many of them. You all keep honing in on specific names. There are many coaches out there that are better than our current coach and our previous 2 before that. Dolson was fixated on DD.

So a coach is only his last season now?
Beard has an E8, a F4 (made the final game), a S16 and a few other tournament appearances since he's been a Division I head coach. Multiple conference championshiips and Coach of the Year awards. Of the "reasonably possible" candidates he was my preference before Devries was hired.

I wasn’t focused on any other school - only IU. And none of those guys were interested in coming to be our coach. Some of it is they don’t want to coach in college, but some of it is they don’t want to coach at IU. Poor leadership has a cost.
