It's a standard theme here how physical the B1G is and it is unlike other conferences and that's why we never win Nattys anymore.
Which leads me to believe he did not do his homework if he is making statements about being surprised.

did he not think to ask anyone especially those at the University or his assistants. I mean my Lord. Has he never coached or played against a P5 team before. Or watched on tv.
Ever heard of Kareem or Wilt or Shaq or Ewing etc. height and size is pretty obvious. Excuse not accepted
@hoosiers94 Well he had one year experience in a P5 conference before he came to IU. I would say that he was inexperienced, at best.

The more I think about it the more mind blowing it really is.
Funny how Cignetti had no issue building a team that could contend in the Big Ten right away.
I'd settle for a team that at least has a fighting chance against high-level opponents (on the road, most notably); I'm so sick and tired of IU getting dog walked several times a season. Oh well, I suppose it's a Hoosier tradition at this point.

with all respect, I do agree with you often. But that is one lame ass excuse

yeah exactly, and before anyone tells me Cig is an anamoly..,I'm not asking for a natty here. Not yet anyway. A tourney team that doesnt lose to NW that doesn't get boat raced 5 time a year and in the conversation for the conference... then we go from there.
@hoosiers94 I'm saying it more as an observation than an excuse. But if he can learn from it, it's correctable. I go back to saying that the next year's roster construction will tell us a lot.

Even if DD magically has seen the light does not mean all these studs big men will be in the portal let alone pick IU. Bailey was ranked one of the top transfer portal players and look at his skills. That is why it is very important that you do not have to get a new starting five in the portal every spring. You notice teams like Duke sure do not have to scramble but we do once again.
Reed Bailey is a 6-foot-9, 190-pound power forward from Brewster Academy who enrolled at Indiana University on April 6, 2025. He is recognized as a high-level transfer portal player in the 2025 college basketball rankings.
If the portal and especially big men are as thin people think it will be we will likely need $10M just to get a respectable frontcourt. Hope Dolson has a miracle up his sleeve.

If guys like reed bailey are considered top 50 portal guys again we are in trouble. You better way overpay to get one really good guy at least
This quote is being blown out of proportion. Its just some stupid coach speak trying to be humble.
“I’m partly to blame. All summer, I underestimated the physicality of the Big Ten,” Dusty May told reporters. “We played Northwestern in NCAA Tournament last year and they out-physicaled us. We didn’t work the way we needed to all summer, all fall."
Cue in before- when DeVries wins the Big Ten like Dusty May, and his team is ranked number one, then he can say the same dumb shit.
