@arioznahoosier4554 Interesting read to say the least. One person I know who is friends with the family told me he wasn't too surprised by this. Said there had been mentions of the NBA in the past, but nothing concrete or that they overly speculated on. What is interesting, if you watch the interview with (I think it was) Chams yesterday, he said this was a "Known" thing in NBA circles and then went on to say "Scheyer will be making the same move in upcoming years". That really struck me, guy has the best gig in college BB and everyone seems to know that he'll leave for the NBA.
@mtbrider NBA coaching life is wayyyyy easier than CBB is. There are no rules in college no enforceable contracts, you have to deal with agents and parents and teenagers. In the NBA you can pretty much just coach.
May was connected to the Orlando Magic job earlier this summer/spring and my guess is he was waiting for a better situation and got that with Dallas.
@hoosier-clarion We'll see. IU may have dodged a bullet now, but May won a title and left. Indiana is sitting with DeVries entering a year where, if he's on the bubble again, they will likely need a search committee. I am sure many fans would trade places.
Michigan had to have known for a little while and they named Boynton interim head coach, while they can conduct a search in the background, while giving their in-house option a full audition.
They'll slide in Schertz after this season and barely miss a beat. I would trade places easily.
Isn't the argument that doing it at Butler is different than at Michigan silly. Butler had a player that became an NBA all star in Gordon Hayward. I don't remember but who was on the FAU Final four team. I'm not arguing for either but think if BS said I want to coach the Mavs and leave the Celts, I'd choose him over Dusty. Stevens is in a different place as GM and looks like he has a busy off season in front him with Jaylen Brown.
And the finals were also home games for Butler.
@cavanagh Don't know that I'd say that. You think if he'd gone to Butler 2 years ago, he'd have won a NC this year? Make 2 straight final games? I think at Butler, and without NIL, that was the more impressive resume. Plus, Brad was probably 10-15 years younger at the time?
@thehoosierhuddle Yep, had a friend who's Dad and brother coached/admin'd at the highest levels in college and in the NBA. Her brother said generally speaking, most coaches at some point get tired of the college grind and recruiting, dealing with teens, alumni, "advisors", boosters, admin and the NCAA. Said pro gigs are just much easier to manage, because it's all bball and you have an off season.
Michigan scrambling not IU. That's the difference.

oh I'd trade spots with them in a heart beat ... fresh off a banner being hung... poor guys

maybe not but I don’t think Brad would have taken MI to win a title in year 2 either. Again, murdering teams along the way. They are one of the top champions of my life time for sure. Regular season and tournament winning by 100. Crazy dominance, and won it all, that is tops as coach in my book for sure. Winning it all means so much more.
@cavanagh If Butler hits that half-court shot, there is no argument. May taking FAU to the final four is more impressive than Stevens taking Butler once. Butler had some good history before Stevens and is in a basketball-rich state, while FAU had only been to one NCAA tournament ever. However, Stevens made it back-to-back title games, which is nuts.
Yes, May won a title, but it was at Michigan, and had Brad won one at Butler this wouldn't be a discussion. Winning holds some water, but I would still be Stevens over May as far as accomplishments.

Pretty much explains why woodson had no interst in recruiting. The colllege job is way harder now and the good college coaches if given the chane will probably bolt

They just won a title I think we would all take that to scramble and I bet next year they might hire a pretty good coach.
Woodson came into an ever better situation than Cig, and basically on the ground floor of NIL.Pretty much explains why woodson had no interst in recruiting. The colllege job is way harder now and the good college coaches if given the chane will probably bolt
But he had no idea what to do with the golden opportunity.
