The IU job was a retirement gift from Quinn to his golfing buddy. Winning clearly was not the main objective. No serious program makes a hire like that.

I get that we all knew that but just the fact quinn who is put up as this great champion is willing to hire somebody he has to know deep down will not succeed proves neither one cares that much about returning IU hoops to glory. If they did they would have tried to go out and make a killer hire who could restore IU. Instead they basically just grifted which is just pathetic. To me both their reputations will now always be tarnished but I highly doubt either one cares.
I believe Quinn thought it was going to be a home run.
lol
@arioznahoosier4554 Cig was hired at I think age 63.
Cig was a proven winner in college who had great work ethic. Woodson had never even coached college.
IOWA.. let that sink in..
Spring ball started so basketball is over for me.
i was wrong on this guy he just wins. Seems now like if you wanted another cig this was then guy and he could of made 1.5 million more a year at iu.
@arioznahoosier4554 Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe he was Dolson's first choice and just preferred the Iowa job. There is a lot of smoke to indicate there are serious problems with how the ball program is run. I don't know what those are, but if I were Dolson, that is where my focus would be along with working with CDD to produce the best possible team next year. But, I'd try and find the snags and rough edges that have led to such a mediocre last 20+ years of IU bball and clean that up for future coaches, CDD or others.
It is interesting that if you followed the "Cig" formula, McCollum's resume is a much closer profile than CDDs. That also might indicate that he was Dolson's first choice and just turned it down. Or, that he just got lucky with Cig.
They literally started from scratch this year. The only holdovers were Fisch/Suhr and maybe the SID. I guess a few walk-ons and maybe some managers. No one of any influence.@arioznahoosier4554 Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe he was Dolson's first choice and just preferred the Iowa job. Dolson has held high level roles in the athletics department for a long time. He is a big reason why basketball is a trash fire. Expecting him to change the culture is a fool’s errand.
I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that IU’s ineptitude will never change. It is impossible for them to get a coaching hire right in basketball.

BUT you knew Cig was a good hire.
BS

I had a positive feeling, but still some skepticism given IU’s terrible history of coaching hires.
