We're firing coaches based on their tournament seed now?
Now I remember why I stopped reading this thread 10 pages ago.
would you not agree there needs to be a measure of accountability this year? And if so what would that be... I don't know that what iugradman said was all that out of order per se... the specifics maybe ... but most of us can agree that there has to be measured improvements this year and if not then it may be time to move on... I'm in that camp, no surprise because I don't see it moving the needle enough to get us back to where we need to be... but stranger things have happened... but bottom line there has to be some expected level of success and progress???
Of course there does, but give me a break. It's a bullshit preseason seeding exercise, and his kneejerk reaction is if he's a 9 seed, he needs to be fired. There's plenty of time to see how it plays out. The constant braying of jackasses gets old.
Personally, I don't think DeVries is the answer, but he's not going anywhere. To paraphrase the GOAT, if it's inevitable, might as well try to enjoy it.

If we have a good season I'll get as much satisfaction out of shutting up the naysayers as I will the actual basketball.

I don't want to be a naysayer, but have not been impressed so far. Tucker, and DD's reliance on him was far from the answer we hoped for. There has to be significant improvement this year (11 reg season BIG wins) or it is time.Of course there does, but give me a break. Scott can’t be the one to hire the next basketball coach. I don’t know why he locked in on DeVries.

I’m happy to eat crow but I get strong Archie vibes from DeVries. He looks overwhelmed coaching in this conference.
No, he doesn't look overwhelmed, come on... That's the last thing he looks like.
And he looks fairly confident in himself. I'm not near an expert but I enjoy watching the casts from those who really are. They spoke very well of DeVries' adjustments and tactics last season.
My only concern, can he draw the top effort, 'run through a brick wall' for him level? That's what it takes. They don't have to do it for the coach, if a team has chemistry, they reach that level for each other.
We were off on chemistry somehow, and seemed like one or two guys didn't buy in to Coach DeVries. But he has had good teams before, so we will see.

I agree
I would venture to say though, if we are a 9 seed ... we haven't done what we've needed to do to improve to the level expected. And I highly doubt we win more than one game in the tournament at that seeding... which in my eyes is time to move on... that's just me... and you're right he's our coach for the upcoming season... doesn't change what I think about his abilities. Nor where I think the results will tally up to... so I will sit back and watch all the games and cheer for my Alma mater ... but I'm not holding my breath for the results I'm wanting

Agree with this, but he'll get another year even if he misses the tournament.
I don't think he's the guy. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks that way to me.

I don’t get why people are so sure he’s not the guy after one year, where he came on late and had to put a whole team together through the portal. I can see being skeptical, but I’m at least going to wait and see what the team looks like this year before going negative. Unless it’s a train wreck, I don’t see us firing him after two years. We haven’t consistently made the tourney in awhile, so I guess I’d consider making the tourney a good first step… and if he does that, no way is he getting fired.
The key metric for success in football was making a bowl game. In men’s basketball, now it’s just making a 76 team tournament. IU has to have higher standards.
I gave a thumbs up. Agree that it is silly to be doom and gloom after one year that did show some promise. And Coach isn't getting fired.I guess I’d consider making the tourney a good first step… and if he does that, no way is he getting fired.
But we spent on this roster. No way that 'making the tourney' is a solid enough first step. (How many get in?) Other than it beats the disastrous alternative.
We need to compete near the top of the league. Be in contention. We will. And otherwise, what's the point of all that cash? 'Hey, we don't suck!'?
@iugradman I agree but I’m not sure we can expect Cig like turnaround. I think gradual is more realistic. Make the tourney next year and then make IU a better prospect for recruits and expect to finish closer to top of conference and progress in tourney.
