If the NCAAT had a 76-team field during Woody's tenure, IU would have been in all four years. How much more watered down can it get? Slipping into the tourney shouldn't be any sort of barometer moving forward. Hell, any P5 team with decent resources should get in every season.
No, the 2023-24 team was so bad it would have missed a 76 team tournament that year. A NCAA tournament of that size means qualifying for it is even less of an accomplishment and the minimum expectation at IU should be to advance past the first round every year.
Dolson has held high level roles in the athletics department for a long time. He is a big reason why basketball is a trash fire. Expecting him to change the culture is a fool’s errand.
I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that IU’s ineptitude will never change. It is impossible for them to get a coaching hire right in basketball.
BUT you knew Cig was a good hire.
BS
I had a positive feeling, but still some skepticism given IU’s terrible history of coaching hires.
So you are trying to tell me that you, who hasn't had a positive post or thought about IU, the administration, the athletic department, the AD, the Pres and virtually EVERY head coach hire for the last 50 years, had a positive feeling after IU announced they hired a mid-major head football coach??
Absolute TOTAL BS.
Here comes Osterman blaming the fans for IU’s pathetic mismanagement of its flagship sports program. Must have gotten his talking points from Dolson.

Wasn't Mullins dying to come to iu. Woodson couldn't be bothered with giving up wine club to go watch I'm though I guess.

“My family were big Michigan football, Michigan basketball fans… I wasn't watching many in-state things,” referencing his upbringing in Indiana.
Q. Braylon, do you have a relationship with Dusty May? I know your dad is pretty close with him. What is the relationship like, and what’s it like to face him now in the National Championship?
BRAYLON MULLINS: Yeah, Coach May recruited me at Michigan, so just having that relationship throughout the recruiting process, I know my dad got to know him very well, and then him being a guy from Indiana. I think that was a connection.
You know, we know each other, but I think now we’re playing on the national stage, so we’re ready for tomorrow.
"Some guy on peegs" got you all in your feels. What a story to tell.@gthomas Funny how we never heard this narrative until now. Back on the old rivals forum at the time, some guy posted that May was as good as hired until Woodson refused to be a good soldier and retire. Now, since it’s clear that Dolson has failed once again, suddenly May never would have considered coming to IU at any point no matter what. Whatever helps you to sleep at night I guess…
Someday people need to accept that May was never coming to IU, no matter when Woody was fired. Michigan was and is a better program, while Indiana is where coaches go to die.
May and Stevens are the two greatest IU coaches who never wanted the job. IU fans used to be considered knowledgeable - now many are just thought of as delusional.

A rambling mess of an article that in the end doesn't really convey much. He should stick to writing about how Bama is going to torch us in the playoffs because "we're not ready".

What the hell is so wrong with IU that one of its own alums didn’t want to coach there? Purdue didn’t have that problem. Neither did North Carolina.
Well, idiots like you, for one. Though obviously there are idiots like you in every fan base.Someday people need to accept that May was never coming to IU, no matter when Woody was fired. Michigan was and is a better program, while Indiana is where coaches go to die.

Mike Woodson wanted to coach here, so we had that going for us.

As if I have any effect on the program at all. I am right the vast majority of the time about IU sports. You sunshine pumpers are pathetic.
