Seems the 5 for 5 is inevitable and upon us so wanted to open a discussion on how recruiting and roster building will look like.
Here are my thoughts and questions, curious to know yours.
1. Unless you are neck deep recruiting ultra elite 5 star talent, HS recruiting classes will for most teams max at 3 freshman, with the average landing between one and two.
2. Will players entering their third season be the most coveted where a team has the opportunity to get their three best seasons ahead of them?
3. Will teams that are somewhat balanced across five classes be at a decided disadvantage against a team that loaded up the bulk of their roster on well seasoned 23 year olds that have produced?
4. Putting player money aside, it feels like this move would add parity across CBB overall.
5. Can a championship level window open for IU in '28 and '29, given the current roster buildings youth, if things fall right?
Who knows? If the portal is still like it is, your points are valid and probable.
im hoping they reinstate the o e time transfer rule along with this 5 for 5

Probably, however, the NBA is still an option. This change will probably come with a one-time transfer rule too.
3. Will teams that are somewhat balanced across five classes be at a decided disadvantage against a team that loaded up the bulk of their roster on well seasoned 23 year olds that have produced?
If you're 23 and still playing CBB you probably aren't an elite talent. Good sure, but the elite talent will probably go pro. Some freshmen are better than upperclassmen. It'll all be about how you develop.
4. Putting player money aside, it feels like this move would add parity across CBB overall?
Taking out one of the big factors is tough to do, but it may help distribute HS talent more.
5. Can a championship level window open for IU in '28 and '29, given the current roster buildings youth, if things fall right?
In the NIL Era, anything can happen.
Will there still be extra years for medical issues?
doesn't sound like it... 5 years to play 5 seasons if the good Lord allows. Starting upon HS graduation or their 19th birthday which ever comes first. So no red shirts.. not even medical
@hoosiers94 I mean there has to be some kind of limit. I thought there was nothing wrong with 5 years to play 4, but if this is the new rule I hope at least they keep it simple and apply it the same to everyone.
It all went nuts with the COVID years and whatever else that was letting guys end up getting a sixth year and still playing college ball at 24-25 years old.

i completely agree It's gotten out of hand but the 5 years isn't that crazy to me Most kids take more than 4 years to graduate these days anyway so

If you are doing it for bbal my kid just graduated in 2.5 years after taking college courses in high school. It is solely for athletes it does not take five years to graduate for a normal student.
@arioznahoosier4554 Yeah, I do think with the rise of college credits in HS, colleges are better able to get kids through in 4 years. I'm sure the stats are out there, but my general feeling is kids are graduating a little quicker with the rise of HS college credits and online courses, etc...
Former EuroLeague Rising Star Yam Madar reportedly agreed to a deal with the LSU Tigers worth $5 MILLION per season 😳

--- Bring on 5 on 5 ASAP. What a joke. This man was an NBA draft pick back in 2020.
LSU is a slimy program. I wonder what course of study Yam will pursue as a "student athlete"?
