I don’t think they believed he could go down the field the way that either Rourke, Fernando or Hoover could / can. They definitely didn’t see him as ready to lead us this year and, while he was welcome to stay, I think they had real concerns about his ability to take that next step.@jackskip23 I don’t buy that. They re rioted Alberto at JMU as well. They clearly thought highly of him. Who said he wasn’t a fit?
@jackskip23 that’s a different story than he didn’t for the offense. Obviously they didn’t think he was ready or they wouldn’t have taken Hoover.
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
@thehoosierhuddle I haven't researched it, but I have heard some podcasters say that Cig/Shanahan have had QB's more involved in the running game in the past, and with the consistency of 2 really good running QBs, it wouldn't have to change much if you had to play the backup. Water under the bridge, but would've loved to have found a way to keep Alberto and thought it was interesting if it truly is that they've used their QBs as runners more in the past.
Alberto will be good for G. Tech. Sucked to lose him. IMO. Cig also said he wanted him to stay and 'compete'.
Only so much room though. And I think Alberto would've been dumb to stay when he can start earning more and actually play. It's reality.
He has to win the job at GT too, and compete. Sounds like he probably will win it, and at Indiana he probably wouldn't have. It seems early to bail, freshman, soph, then leave...? But, his call.
Exactly, staff was already accepting of Alberto for development to run the offense on the field.
