Rigt now the biggest name with the most traction is QB Lukas Prock. It's still super early in the cycle, but the 2027 QB committed in July of 2025, so there are rumors he wants to announce before his HS season starts. He is from NJ so their season starts later I believe.

@thehoosierhuddle kind of wild to me that QBs are that interested in coming here, with our MO of taking starting QBs through the portal. Guessing about 1 per class is normal, but between the kids we have on our roster and Purcell next year, I thought we might skip a year without a QB commit. I think lots of folks are hoping Cherry might be the guy next year, and I thought Bell looked really good for a freshman QB in the spring game.
The ultimate moneyball move is to develop a recruit into your starting QB at a huge discount but Top 10 production and investing that QB NIL money into your Offensive and Defensive lines.

This is the college version of drafting an elite QB in the NFL and winning a super bowl while he's still on a rookie deal. Interesting perspective honestly - curious if some college teams organize themselves this way

@middawg On paper yes, but how often is that going to work out? And, if it does, it realistically is only going to be a big savings the first year he's a starter, because if he has a good year, his market value is going to escalate a ton. I think most were convinced Alberto was going to be our starter this year and look how that has changed. I did think it was interesting that Cig mentioned it would be great to develop a QB and wondered if that was a nod to Tyler Cherry. Be great to see him step in as a QB, but also a ton of pressure. The first game he struggles in, fans are going to be saying we should've gone to the portal!
@kkott I liked Alberto, but I think it's best for everyone he went somewhere else. The expectations to be his brother would be impossible.
I think Cherry is the key to the future of roster construction. If he is healthy and can show the talent he has, IU may not have to go to the portal for a sure fire starter. They will need a portal QB anyway with two leaving after this year, but if Cherry can be QB1 for 2027 and 2028 things start to fall in place with the roster.

That would be impressive on Cherry’s part if he can improve enough to start here, especially since he won’t get much PT this year (hopefully).
Not saying he can’t… it would just be impressive.

No home grown QB will get that much PT here before potentially being a starter. 1 backup QB might get to play the 4th quarter in a handful of games but that's about it unless we get hit with an injury.
@hurryinghoosiers yea I guess it’s all down to what’s happening in practice
@thehoosierhuddle there was a video of the QBs in a throwing drill during the spring, and his zip on the ball was noteworthy. I also have to imagine that Shannahan loves him after he stepped off the roster for a year to create space and serving as a student coach. I’ll be interested to see if he jumps Wilson for clean up minutes.
@evillehoosier8 Here's the thing. If the season started today and you needed your backup QB to play meaningful snaps, it'd be Grant Wilson. If IU is up 40 points, Cherry probably is the guy.
That's how I see it entering fall camp, while some other outlets don't see it like that they look at it like Cherry has earned that spot. Could his standing change in fall camp? Of course. But it's hard to believe that a player with one game of experience and over a year away from the field would automatically be QB 2 entering fall camp.
