@olympian97 A lot of this information is coming from agents. Coaches aren’t going to publish that they’re talking to people’s camps. For the reasons you list.

however, don’t be shocked when deals go through at 12:01am

what’s your thoughts on Dabo’s statement? Is he missing an opportunity, or is it “not the right way”?

A bunch of people just throwing crap and seeing what sticks.  Probably a lot just based on where a writer thinks a QB would be a good fit.   And players benefit if schools think they are in high demand.  Hard to know which smoke is legit unless it comes from someone with ties to the staff.

@olympian97 No one martyrs themselves like Dabo does! He's got to dance a fine line to explain to admins and boosters why he's starting to use the portal, even though he lobbied against it for so long. I would say this is his tack: "we have no problem using the portal, but all the other schools cheat by negotiating early, and we're not going to do that."

Dabo annoys me to no end. Just because he was too out of date or unable to adapt makes his way better. LOL, yeah, sure.

Clemson got all that pre-NIL era talent with bags of McDonalds fries.

Byard would look good at safety for the Hoosiers next year

@iunorth

Yep…and Kamara had a very quiet season.  The monster seasons came from guys like Wyatt, Dailey and our NT Tyrique Tucker, who was 1st Team All Big Ten.

i said last year that I really, really like that kid behind West.  He turned out to be the real deal.

Some decent OL are entering the portal. My wishlist would be the tackle from LSU (albeit I bet he stays in the south), and the center from Georgia Tech

@kkott Fore sure.  If they end up bringing in a 4M type guy, then 1)its a clear sign they don't actually have a ton of confidence in Alberto 2)Alberto will likely transfer

In the end, none of us have any clue what the staff is thinkin, or how good Alberto actually is.  Obviously I'll trust whatever Cig and Shanahan and company decide to do.

I'm just operating off the assumption that they're high on Alberto.

And I don't believe, for a second, most of the twitter smoke with regards to high end QBs and IU, right now.  I know they're all more than capable of walking and chewing gum, at the same time.  So I'm sure they're recruiting the portal right now pretty hard.  But I can't fathom they'd do something to disrupt the mojo of THIS team, the QB room, the Mendoza family... by openly recruiting and talking with guys like Josh Hoover, Sorsby, etc... as has been reported.  Not happening.

Cignetti is the first IU coach since Knight (and I guess Jerry Yeagley) who I trust to make the right decisions and put together a good roster, but even he needs competitive resources to do so. I hope he has them. There are a lot of big spenders out there now. Rich alums are shoveling money at their alma maters’ athletic departments.

After talking with some people that work with our collective... he has the resources needed.

The resources are there.

@thehoosierhuddle This offseason might be a bigger test of that, than last offseason was?  If we truly have double digits levels of guys that have high draft grades... He could be looking at needing to replace and/or upgrade more than he did last year.   Its one of the reasons I hope he really focuses on linemen, when looking at elite, CFP level guys to bring in.  Gotta think, in general, they'll be less expensive than bringing in elite skills position guys.

@iunorth it still comes down to supply and demand. You can find elite skill guys at any level.
finding elite OL/DL may be more expensive.

@thehoosierhuddle - The lines have and will always be the largest differentiators.  IU is getting great HS talent that will eventually help us there, but this offseason is another one we really need to lean heavy on the portal again.  My hope is this is the last year we are as hyper dependent on the portal as we have been so far.
