@yothn That’s my guess too. As I said in my portal shopping list, the key word is bridge. IU has to bridge the gap between the young talent and departing talent. Ajani has been really nice, but the younger players are probably a year away.
Cheaper than QBs but otherwise I would think elite CPF level lineman would be the highest.@thehoosierhuddle This offseason might be a bigger test of that, than last offseason was? If we truly have double digits levels of guys that have high draft grades... He could be looking at needing to replace and/or upgrade more than he did last year. Its one of the reasons I hope he really focuses on linemen, when looking at elite, CFP level guys to bring in. Gotta think, in general, they'll be less expensive than bringing in elite skills position guys.
I still wonder if Coach Cig limits snaps or keeps a little under wraps a few of his guys only to play the long game with an eye toward NIL. Seems like so many times somebody breaks in due to injury they star. Would think we'd want to spell starters more. But probably not why it happens. He has started freshman when he needs to.
@openwheel This staff does a really good job of developing players. They go all out in practice and it helps. As far as substitutions, IU did not do it much for a couple reasons, 1) This need needed to play together. 2) They just don't run that many plays 3) Subbing allows the other teams to sub as well.
Were there times when I thought the starters should've sat earlier? Yes, but they also needed the reps. That's portal life.

From what Ive read, OL are the most expensive outside of QB as a position group, followed by DL. A few of the super high end WR will get big money, but the drop off for that position group is huge. Even mediocre OL in the portal cost a lot. The going rate for a quality B1G starting caliber OL is over $1m

I know, but he's one of the best qbs on the nation and a former IU commit. If he's interested and affordable, you go after him.
There is a lot of chatter that Hoover will end up at IU. Sign me up.

He’s got the intangibles and is a good overall QB. I would definitely take him
So do you take him at the risk of losing Alberto? And making Fernando and their family mad at you? Right before you are heading to the Peach Bowl in the semifinals?https://twitter.com/chris_hummer/status/2001820237230915982?s=20

I’m not privy to what the staff is thinking about the QB position for next year. It was just a general statement about Hoover.

You have to make your team better. If we can get Hoover, you keep Alberto in the loop, but you still go out and get him because Hoover can undoubtedly win games.
If that hurts Alberto's feelings, then it is what it is, but Cig is here to win and Hoover would help in that situation. Coaches are always trying to recruit over who we are losing. No one will match what Fernando brought, but having a guy that finished in the top 10 in passing yards and touchdown thrown in the country would be a nice alternative.
