Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
I do not understand how Illinois is ranked above us
Must be bringing back a lot of players that squeaked by Purdue last season 50-49 in OT. bringing them street cred.
That same Purdue team that put up 67 total yards against IU.

on the bright side, they should still be ranked when we beat them.
I find the rankings of IU and ASU (could probably include Illinois with ASU) to be interesting.
The fact that I now live in Mesa, AZ and the ASU campus is about 30 minutes away and it’s certainly the local favorite, adds to my intrigue.
IU and ASU both had great seasons last year that were largely unexpected. While both lost in the CFP, IU’s was more of an ugly loss while ASU nearly pulled off an incredible comeback.
Since then the ASU narrative has all been positive while IU’s has been much more pessimistic.
Hard for me to see ASU above IU, let alone 11th versus 20th. It’s all projections at this point, I understand. Just interesting, I think, how the narratives of the two teams have evolved.
Sports Illustrated pegs INDIANA at #10 in their top 25.
Preseason polls are meaningless and used to generate discussion and set narratives about teams. They in no way indicate how good a team actually is.
Right, but ratings do affect CFP's/bowl scenarios.

🤔
okay?
I respect all opinions, but I tend to agree that Preseason rankings are meaningless as cfp polls don’t even come out until November. Didn’t hurt IU last year with CFP. I don’t see that our position would have improved with a preseason top 25 ranking. It’s not where you start it is where you finish and last year we finished top 10 after not even being ranked to start. If IU takes care of business on the field we will be in the cfp. Probably at least 25% of these teams wont be top 25 by end of the season and someone unexpected will probably be there instead. It’s fun to talk about though. I think I would rather see more of our opponents get the preseason love in the polls as that helps our sos argument. 😁
@olympian97 I do think the preseason ranking helps. Last year IU was so low that they had a lot of ground to make up and it seemed to take forever for them to break into the rankings. If they had started in the top 20 like this year they would have zoomed up the charts a lot faster and I think a lot of the doubters would have been less so. Just my opinion.
