So it's Alabama.

We know their coaches.  DeBoer and Wommack were huge factors in IU's success in 2019 (the Gator Bowl season) and Wommack was still around in 2020 for that Covid-shortened 6-2 season.

Wommack made some nice in-game adjustments last night, Alabama dialed up the pressure against Mateer and, after the Sooners' hot start, Bama rendered their offense mostly impotent.

Alabama's a good team.  They're inconsistent, though, and they're vulnerable.  Too early for a prediction thread but, I see Haines and company having a very big New Year's Day.  Go IU!!

@big-ryan - To be honest, the defense has never been an issue this year. Its just a matter of whether or not IU can run the ball.  If IU can establish the run game, the passing game follows and the game gets out of hand. If the run game doesn't get established, we are in another Iowa, Penn State, OSU type game.

It all comes down to the jimmy and joes, and I don’t see many players on Alabama that would start over our guys. On the offensive side of the ball, not a single one.

We are the big bad bully on the block now. I want IU to cave Alabama in to where DeBoer might seriously get canned, and to the point where Kirk “SEC” can pose the question of if Alabama even belonged on the field as the bubble team

At the end of the day, we’re in the quarter finals Rose Bowl vs Bama and while we of course could lose, we have a good chance to win.

That’s about all I could hope for going into this game.

Alabama’s strength team David Balou and Dr. Matt Rhea were also on that IU team. They went straight to Alabama from here.

@yothn that secondary looked wide open all game long. Alabama has more things to exploit than IU does. They made so many dumb mistakes too. If they get down to us like that it might get ugly.

Man I hope we run over Bama by 30 or more.  After all of the staff that are there after they gained initial success in Bloomington; I'd prefer us winning by 40 or more.

Alabama will play better. Shook the nerves off.

Indiana will still beat them. Tough game though. Should be awesome.

I will be satisfied with any win. But a couple touchdown beat down sounds about right.

I will be happy with any win. I’m concerned the Daley loss will hurt us which will make it harder. On the other hand I once thought DeBoer would have been a great coach for IU, but they look like a very poorly coached team compared to Cig’s team which will be a problem for them.

I have accepted that Penix made Allen, DeBoer and Sheridan all look significantly better than they actually are. People also seem to be forgetting that DeBoer won at Washington with quite a few Chris Petersen recruits. Their team was 5/6th year loaded his two seasons there.

This is very true for a lot of coaches. They get one good QB that gives them a couple good years and everyone thinks it was the coach. Then when the coach does not pan out they are surprised.

@walt542 Apparently MSU is going to hire Nick Sheridan. How they got someone to invest $400m in their program for Fitz and Sheridan is beyond me...

@d-b-cooper Yeah, it's just such a bizarro-world where I, as an IU fan, am sitting watching a Bama v OU game and thinking, "good gawd, this is such a poorly played game, I think we beat either team by 2 TDs!".

The Fitz part is a no-brainer. He’s an excellent coach and he’ll do well there. It will be interesting to see how those two want to run their offense. Fitz always relied on big boy football, but Alabama has gotten away from that a bit under KDB and Grubb. Sheridan wasn’t in a position to grow down there, so now he has another shot to do that back in the Big Ten.

And Alabama fans I see posting online are saying stuff like *we had about 10 guys injured for the Georgia game, a lot of guys will have had time to heal for Indiana* Not what I particularly want to hear, that their fans feel they are healthier than in awhile.

Even their QB Simpson is healthier. He was dinged. But I still think we will have a chance to get to some of his throws. Supposedly some good lineman have healed up though.

Tough game. Go Hoosiers!
