people are doing to ODU what we get upset about people doing to us.

Judging a program based solely on the name on the jersey.

they would be at the bottom of the big ten. Cmon .. I know you all want to give legitimacy to a team we "struggled" with and hence give more clout to our team. Makes sense. I just call it as I see it.  We played poorly. They perhaps had one of their better games. They aren't ranked and they won't be...  they are a good mid major team and on any given day they could sneak up on someone.  But they are not power 5 comparable.  And perception is reality. They might beat UCLA.

Whoa, speaking of maintainin legitimacy.  When did IU struggle against ODU?   IU certainly left 35-42 points on the board, but they certainly didn't "struggle".  Thats changing the narrative completely.

IU had 502 yards of offense.  309 yards rushing. Held ODU to 96yds passing. IU intercepted ODU 3 times to their 1.  IU had only 3 penalties to ODU's 9.   IU dominated that game and only gave up 2 long TD's. That was the only thing of 'concern' that went wrong.  IU missed easy opportunities for points, which would've made it another 50pt win but it wasn't due to IU not being able to move the ball. It's far from struggling when you are moving the ball at will.

do you hear yourself. We left "35-42" points on the field.  That's struggling to score. Big time. The scoreboard is what matters.

@hoosiers94 Not that I'm certain but I think I read that the pre-season games are scheduled years out. May well be that this year was set before Cig was even hired.

I think you are correct.

we struggled to put the ball in the end zone. Which is the point of the game. So yes I do think we struggled ... the scoreboard is what matters.  All the other stuff are pleasantries

We stomped ODU .

We didn't play our best game, I doubt they did either. But we stomped them. Game was never in doubt. Sure we could've won by a couple more TDs, we didn't. Doesn't meant we didn't smash them.

They still impressed as a solid sun belt team which means they can jump up and beat P4 any given game.

@iunorth the old adage of " be where your feet are" holds true here.  The team and staff need to follow that, but as fans we just need to enjoy the new INDIANA.

the sisters of the poor could beat Virginia tech

But NC State can't?

@hoosiers94 The only teams they wouldn't be competitive with, if not beat, would be OSU, Oregon, IU, PSU, and maybe Illinois, Michigan, and Washington.  Everyone else, they'd play with...and a few of them, like UCLA, Northwestern, maybe even Purdue, they'd be favored to beat.

That means IU is capable of being THAT good, as much as anything.

ODU would beat Stanford and Navy and would play Pitt, 'Cuse, NCSU and BC close, perhaps even win.  Maybe the same with Boise.  USC is probably the only team left on ND's schedule that ODU might not stay close with and I'm not even sure I buy that.  Hell, we already saw NC State lose to Va Tech, who ODU dog walked in their own stadium.

Guarantee you we scheduled them as "sure thing win".  Cupcake.  If you asked 100 people if they thought Boise State was a tougher opponent than Okd Dominion. 99 would agree. And the same for Navy, Stanford , Syracuse. We are talking about perception here.  At the end the year we aren't getting any points of consideration for beating ODU by only 13.  Mark my words.

Well, actually, we're the only team in the country that has 3 top 50 wins this season and I'll let you guess which school is among those 3.  So yes, the systems that the committee uses to help determine their rankings is absolutely giving us credit for beating ODU.

so a team that struggles to move the ball at all has the same amount of issues as the team that moves it well but struggles in the red zone simply because both struggle to score?

I think you're just trying to win an argument.

If the scoreboard is what matters, we won by 2 TDs.   The fact that we left 35-42pts on the board shows just how much we dominated.  You're not making any sense.

I was JUST NOW on the Allstate CFP predictor on ESPN and they had Old Dominion as the 12 seed in my first go at it. ha

sounds like you are as well.

I didn't make the statement... we "left 35-42" points on the field.  Doesn't sound good to me. So yes we should have beaten that team by 40 by that theory and which puts them in cupcake world.  No way they beat Illinois.  We beat Illinois by 53.   So why didn't we beat them by 50?  I'll tell you why because we struggled to score. And yes they are equally concerning issues.  Of which Cig seems to have addressed. But it doesn't take away the result.  Which is preventing some from giving us the respect we deserve.  You don't schedule Old Dominion thinking we are up for a challenge today.  No they're scheduled as a predictive easy win.
they are a perennial cupcake.  So is N Ill.  What was their record last year ?  So comparing the perception of a schedule. This years schedules.  ND vs IU.  We have 3 cupcakes on our schedule. They have 0 perceived cupcakes on their schedule this year. And no BC, Syracuse , Stanford and not even Navy are perceived cupcakes.  That's point I'm making.  The voters haven't and won't watch the ODU game.  They will see the score.  Maybe some metrics may assist us if they keep winning which is unforeseen at this point. I'm talking about perception.  Nothing more perception.

Your logic is why Va Tech was destroyed by them. They very well could become a ranked team at some point this year if they beat James Madison in a couple weeks.
