Has Alabama playing at IU. Can you even imagine? I think the town would explode!! ( I know these predictions mean zero now but still fun to imagine).

We'll have to beat OR or PSU for that to happen imo.

If ND loses I think we get in with close losses to Oregon and PSU. If we lose to both and one's a bad loss, we're probably screwed in any event.

If ND wins out, the only way for us to get in would be for the ACC and Big 12 to only get 1 team each.  FSU probably loses to Miami and has to play Florida & Clemson on the road, so they could end up with 3 losses.  But UL and GT, who are both undefeated, have very easy schedules, other than GT plays GA in Atlanta.  Also Virginia would be in good shape to have a one loss season if somehow they beat UL at UL. So...some way, some how, I think the ACC gets 2 in.

I don't think 2 from the Big 12 would get in, but I suppose it's possible.

No offense, our program at 5-0 needs to expect or know that we will compete and can beat any team.  Let everyone else do them, let’s just take care of our business.  Times have changes!

I know you are being somewhat tongue and cheek....but...This forum is meant for fun and conversation, Cranky Carl.  What makes sports and moments like this fun is talking about future possibilities and brainstorming about absolute nonsense.

That would be insane!

I think to host a CFP game, they'll need to split with Oregon and PSU, and obviously win all the rest.

I think if they lose both of those games, but both of them are very competitive until the end, they'll have a great shot at making one of the last few at larges.  Obviously if they win all the rest.

If they get blown out, or the games are never in doubt, in those 2 big games, and/or if they lose one of the other ones, I don't think they'll make it.  Too much parity this year, too many SEC/ND teams that would get in over IU, even with 3 losses maybe.  Parity would often help a team like IU.  But if they have the narrative that they've struggled in pretty much every elite level game they've played the last 2 years, that will hurt them.

And then there are a ton of factors that will impact it as well, outside IU's control.  If Illinois finished 10-2 or something, that will be huge for IU.  If the B12 and ACC eat their own, and flirt with being 1 bid leagues...that would also help IU.

In the end... the only thing that matters right now are the coaches and players figuring out how to perform better than they have in these electric road game atmospheres.  Its obviously a glitch in Cignetti's approach and system, right now.

@yothn I hear ya. I guess I’m just saying it would be nice for us to get to a point where we expect to win every week. And then we don’t have to worry about what Notre Dame or any other team is doing because we’re taking care of our own own business. Sorry I didn’t mean to sound cranky,

@eppy99 the fact that we’re hashing out CFP scenarios is insane… we’d all do well to “big scheme” check ourselves from time to time.

Year two, legit chance at 2nd straight CFP.  It’s really incredible what Cig and staff have done.

The next step is competing with the big boys.  We have 2 chances at that.  But even if it doesn’t happen this year.  It’s nuts how far we’ve come in such a short time.

@hoosiers94

So in 2024, with a schedule of OOC games made up in advance and the B1G scheduling our conference games, it was IUs fault they had a "weak" schedule?  Why, because UM, UCLA, MSU & Washington weren't as strong as they had been historically?

In 2025 IU is punished for scheduling 2 G5 OOC home games, as do probably 90+% of P4 teams?  I will grant you IU has no business playing ISU.  The rest of IU's schedule is just fine.

I am sick and tired of people, especially IU fans, complaining about our football schedule.   BTW, turns out ODU looks to bea pretty solid team.  Our win against them is looking better each week.

ND lost to Northern Illinois.

IU lost to Ohio State.

ND got the game at home.

Lets not pretend fairness is in the conversation.

i didn't say it was our fault.  Nor is it ND's fault.  That's the point.  However we scheduled 3 cupcakes. Sorry ODU is a cupcake.  ND doesnt have the likes of Indiana st nor kennesaw st on their schedule.  The comment was comparing IU and ND not the rest of the country.  Just as you don't want anyone talking shit about our schedule I think it's fair to take the same approach about ND's schedule this year.  And no sorry ODU is a cupcake.  They may be good for their conference etc but you don't schedule ODU thinking you're going to lose that game. It was scheduled cause it was deemed a winnable game ... despite Cig's knowledge of them ... and not sure when we scheduled them ...

@hoosiers94 For the 100th time... Indiana has to play NINE conference games, in 1 or 1A most difficult conferences in the country.  And they do it with probably a quarter the "budget" that ND has.

Cignetti is a very, very smart man.  He altered the schedule, I have ZERO doubts, because of the SEC scheduling philosophies that he mentioned most SEC teams have employed for years.  8 conference games, 3 cupcakes, and a good non conf game... Or, put in another way, 9 potentially difficult games, and 3 cupcakes.  Sounds like IU's current scheduling philosophy.

Now, the SEC has changed the narrative with their new "rules".  I'm sure Cig, Dolson, and IU, and the rest of the teams in the B10, and other P4 conferences that play 9 games, will follow suit.

If IU is going to do it, they need to find 2 home and home opponents, before the ND home and home comes in 4 years.  No clue if Cig, will react quickly to it all, or not.  But if he wants to find a midlevel P4 team to home and home with...coming off their last 2 seasons, he won't have any issues doing it.

@hoosiers94 And ODU would beat half the teams on ND's schedule, without question.  I agree with your point on them being scheduled because they're a non P4 team.  But Cig , or whoever made the choice, knew they'd be a challenge when he scheduled them.  Its a good Sun Belt program.  There were a lot worse programs he could have used that slot on.

No, I get it.  I am just saying, its fun to just ponder.  Every program is going through those same ideas.  All in good fun.

Dude I completely understand your statement. So for the 100th time.  ODU is a cupcake.  I don't care. But you can't say our schedule is tough and there's isn't.   It's a contradiction. Maybe you don't get it .

I disagree with that.  They aren't that good. Maybe they catch one of those teams. But not all of them.
