sophomore with 4,330 passing yards and 41 touchdowns

Holy cow, that's a crap load for a HS QB.

and ONLY 7 INTs.  I don't care what level you're playing at, that's great decision making with the ball!  To be doing that as a Soph in HS, that's impressive!

Hun vs CG Schedules

@iureactionary Do you believe their schedule is tougher than the MIC?

Edit: Nevermind. I just looked it up. They play a monster of a schedule. For this kid to do what he did as a soph playing that schedule is insane. Great get my Cig and crew.

@the-watson It certainly will be, but I'm as confident as I can be, that Cig has transitional plans already formed. He knows these guys aren't going to be Coordinators for ever and I would imagine has a plan, or more than 1, in mind for if/when they leave.

I think this kid probably ends up being a 5*

Forget which podcaster I was listening to, but that's exactly what they said. Plus, a great list of other schools that were after him. Sounded like a 5* list.

I just watched about 10 minutes of the hudl of Prock. Woah...! Then I watched 5-6 minutes of Cherry and then Jacob Bell. Woah...

Our QB room will be loaded. 😎

I rank them about like the pundits, Prock, Cherry, Bell, on HS film. But could see any of them winning the job. I thought Bell's arm wasn't as good until the highlight where he was backpedaling fast from a lineman, never got set and the backpedal wrist throw went over 60 yards, not some moon ball either, got there quickly. Again, woah... For all three! LOL My bet is Cherry wins it next year being older, I'll be surprised if we have to bid way up for a QB with both him and Bell available.

Edit: Forgot about Purcell. Watched a bit now. Woah, lol. Our coaches will have a good problem, picking from this embarrassment of riches.

@openwheel Not much to go on, but the guy who made me take notice in the spring game was Bell. I know a lot of "experts" have been impressed with Purcell's play in camps and I love how he's been promoting the program to others, including Sales. Agreed, no idea how it will all play out, but feels like a really solid group and that it may be in the near future, we're not signing a 1 year QB out of the portal.

Will Prock be the first non-senior to start at IU under Cigs?  If so, what year will he start?

I think RS FR (2029) is likely the earliest we could see him start.  2030 as a RS So or 2031 as a RS Jr may be more likely (assuming he doesn't transfer).

May depend how much money Cig is willing to have donors allocate to a non-starter, to keep him here.

The new reality, every year is a new bid.

This.  If a HS recruit hasn't jumped out and firmly grabbed the position by their 2nd year, they're buried behind a combination of the next incoming HS stud and/or portal transfer and that kid then isn't offered anywhere near the NIL the actual starter gets.  He can stay for depth and a great education or move on.

If the HS kid comes in and lights it up, then it's time to tear up that initial NIL deal and do what it takes to retain him and have the luxury of continuity.  A name more and more people will probably hear about this year is Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele at Cal.  Even guys like Pat McAfee were all over him by midway his true freshman year.  A lot of people were surprised that he stayed at Cal, but Cal put up a TON of money and new HC Tosh Lupoi put on the full-court press to keep him out of the portal.

I think either the JKS path happens (a kid earns the start early in his college career and then big money follows to lock him up) or most programs will try to replace with proven Portal QBs until such time one of their 4*/5* HS recruits grabs the bull by the horns.

IU is building up an impressive QB room of HS recruits (no surprise given Cig's success developing that position) and it remains to be seen who grabs the spot early enough in their career that the desire to find a hugh priced portal transfer isn't there anymore

@dht For now that philosophy is correct and Cal is a good comp. We will see what happens in the future with portal restrictions, but if things stay the same, he probably wouldnt see the field untill 2029.

How does CCC sell a young QB on the program considering over the last 5-6 years he has brought an experienced 3-4 year QB?

@gr8iufan Just look at how he develops guys. A competitor will want to win the job and be the next great one. NIL doesn't hurt their case either. Worst case for the kid is he sits a year gets developed and transfers and gets paid as a QB from the Cig system. People also want to be part of winning.
