Is Will Stein trying to replicate Cigs "google me"?  So flattering.

Will Stein "We will win big because of me"

@yothn He won’t, because it’s Kentucky, and the SEC. I think he’ll be good there though, 7-5 would be great.

Well, fair play to him for trying to change their culture.  If I were a UK fan I'd be fairly pleased with his attitude so far.

But, obviously talk is easy.  We'll see if he can do it on the field.

I don't think the SEC is the gauntlet that they and ESPN want everyone to believe.   There is a tendency to overrate the conference and then they get to brag about all of the ranked teams they beat or barely lost to.  Most games are seen as good wins or good losses so a win causes a big rise and a loss causes a minor drop.  Postseason comes around and they aren't any better than the big ten (arguably worse in the last few years).

Chances of anyone being another Cig is fairly slim as far as instant turnaround.  UK was 5-7 last year so they may not need as much to get things going though.

@hurryinghoosiers -  I am with you.  The SEC is not deeper.  Their middle is not better than the middle of the B1G and their bottom is not better than the bottom of the B1G.  That "SEC is so deep" phrase has been uttered so many times by the media that people just recite it as fact.  It's no longer factual.

The SEC is delusional from the top down. They refuse to admit they built their league on cheating, and as soon as everybody could pay, Vandy shot to the top, and their “best” couldn’t make the tournament, so now they want to break off and form their own league and again “declare” themselves “best” without proving it on the field.

The Big Ten should offer $1,000,000 bounty to every school that beats an SEC team.

Cig bullied the SEC into moving to 9 conference games and the crying from SEC media days is hilarious. Will Stien can say whatever he wants and comparing his situation to Cig's is lazy at best, if not downright stupid. UK went to 8 bowls under the previous staff, but they couldn't get over the hill in some big games.

I believe that, in general, the SEC has the better players and the BT has the better coaches...

Top of the B1G seems a bit better… the middle and bottom of the SEC is a little better than the B1G.

Cig, short, intense, effective practices. Cig, short, pithy, effective comment. "I win. Google me.'

Will Stein reword, "We have won where I have been. Search me on Google and prove that to yourself".

Not a Cig.

I would be more impressed with coaches that just be themselves instead of trying to copycat.

His quips and mannerisms isn't what makes him good.

If I really wanted to steal his success (and couldn't be an assistant), then would make a database of every offer to recruits, sort by position and try to figure out what qualities he is prioritizing at each position.  would also work on making practices more efficient since I am guessing that keeping the players fresh is part of the secret sauce.

So basically, separate the wheat from the chaff of what is really important to steal and what just makes you look goofy

To be fair, for any new HC this year and the next few years, Cigentti is THE standard that newly hired or underperforming HCs will be judged.  Who wouldn't want to approach Cignetti's level of success in the short period of time he did it in?

Cignetti pulled off one of the, if not THE greatest turnarounds in college football history - so EVERYONE from entitled blue blood fan bases with perceived underperforming rosters (Alabama. Michigan and USC come to mind) to some previous tradition but recent stumbles (UCLA) to decades of mostly mediocre results (Cal) hope/insist their program is next.

With that said, IU's commitment to football excellence, from Chancellor to AD to HC to DONORS is an underreported but equally important reason IU was able to transform itself from doormat to elite.  Understanding the potential benefits of NIL and Portal and how to leverage them (and yes, I believe enforceable rules need to be put into place) is not something every program does equally well, but when everyone mores in one direction like is currently happening at IU, it's a beautiful thing to see.

Shameless plug: as a lifelong Cal fan, IU's success proving a long downtrodden flagship state university CAN win at the highest level, has inspired a level of giving at Cal unseen. Ever. By 10s of millions.

Cal's Chancellor (Rich Lyons), GM (Ron Rivera) and new HC (Tosh Lupoi) are all Cal grads, and many heavy hitter donors (7 and 8 figure level donors) are united in the understanding Cal needs to become attractive enough (big eyeball numbers and CFP appearance) in the next 2-3 seasons that the next round of re-alignment includes an invitation into the B1G.

I usually have rooted for Cal against the bigger name opponents. No reason. Just a bit of an underdog most of the time in the sports I watch.

Maybe they are the next sleeping giant to awaken.

@dht - Cal is a great school and clearly has the potential to be a good program if the stars align.

What I will say though is that although you certainly need to have the money.....coaching/development is even more important.  If you outspend everyone but don't have great coaching, you're just pissing into the wind.
