Hoosiers Get Homecoming BOOM as Carmel Tight End Kurt Rafdal Commits

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

Indiana's homecoming festivities got off to a booming start Thursday night as Carmel (Ind.) tight end Kurt Rafdal announced he was committing to play for the Hoosiers. Rafdal is a 6-fot-7 230-pound three-star tight end according to 247Sports, who is ranked as the sixth best player in the state of Indiana. Indiana beat out some impressive names for his services, as Rafdal held offers from Auburn, Nebraska, Louisville, Maryland, Boston College, and Illinois among others.

Rafdal has the perfect frame to be a playmaker in the Big Ten at tight end. He can be lined up in tight or split out wide and used in the passing attack. He can win jump balls with ease and has good hands for a player his size. He does not have the speed to run by many people, especially at the next level, but his foot work and legs are good enough to get open. He also has a frame that can add some bulk in a college weight program.

Rafdal is the 15th commitment for the Hoosiers 2017 class and his commitment shoots IU's 2017 class up to 51st nationally and 11th in the Big Ten. He was recruited to IU by tight ends coach James Patton and took an unofficial visit to IU on August seventh.

The ink on all the faxes from 2016’s National Signing Day is barely dry but coaches all across the country are already hard at work on assembling their 2017 class. Kevin Wilson was very pleased with the class he just signed but he made it very clear that he wanted to bring in more in-state prospects in 2017 and according to a visitors list obtained by Matt Weaver and peegs.com, there will be a half-dozen talented in-state prospects on campus for unofficial visits tonight. The prospects are expected to attend the showdown at Assembly Hall between the Hoosiers and the #4 Iowa Hawkeyes.
