Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2023 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players' roles in the upcoming season. Today we dive into quarterback Dexter Williams.
Name: Dexter Williams
Hometown: Macon, Georgia (Mount de Sales Academy)
Position: Quarterback
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Williams enters his third season with the program after starting two games last season. He made his debut against Penn State before being named the starter against Michigan State. He the team to an upset win against the Spartans and the program celebrated well after the win.
The following week was rivialy week against the Boilmakers and Williams was of course named the starter. He was leading the team and the program feeded off his energy. The triple option was succeeding with a 71-yard touchdown run by All-American Jaylin Lucas.
Unfortunately, with lots of momentum and packed house at Memorial stadium behind him, Williams suffered a devastating knee injury which completly swung the momemtium of the game. Things were never the same and the Hooisers ended up losing 30-16 before the Boilmakers celebrated a Big 10 West title on the Hoosiers home turf.
Williams displayed amazing grit and perseverance during his minimal playing time last season. His ability to diagnose plays and absorve pressure before taking off to run made him a great quarterback considering poor offensive line play.
This season, WIlliams one word is Resilience. A perfect word for an exceptional young man. Resilience is something Williams is taking to heart after suffering a devestaing knee injury, his second in three seasons with the Hooisers.
The quarterback room is filled with talent. Tayven Jackson, Broc Lowery, and Brendan Sorsby are all competing for the starting job but don’t count out Williams who is expected back for the 2023 season.
