Indiana Adds Georgia CB Zacharey Smith to 2025 Class

The Indiana Hoosiers continue to amass talent as Curt Cignetti builds his first full class as the head coach in Bloomington. On Thursday, the Hoosiers received a surprise flip commitment as three-star cornerback Zacharey Smith de-committed from Pittsburgh and pledged to Cignetti and the Hoosiers.

Zacharey Smith is 6’0” and 170 pounds and he initially chose Pittsburgh over offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, SMU, Texas A&M and West Virginia. He visited IU in March for a spring practice and quickly became interested in what Curt Cignetti’s staff was selling.

“The coaching staff and the love they showed me compared to other programs,” Smith told Peegs.com’s Matt Weaver. “My relationship with the staff has been great.”

Zacharey Smith played both cornerback and wide receiver for Hapeville Charter Academy, a school in the Atlanta area. Smith kept that interest in Indiana and officially visited on June 18. He apparently loved what he saw as he committed just two days later. In addition to his skills on defense, Smith operates as the kick and punt returner for the Hapeville Hornets. His impressive ball skills are what stands out the most on his highlight film as he routinely tracked the ball well and finished the play with an interception. He does not currently have a very thick frame and will definitely need some weight added before he can compete with Big Ten receivers but that should not be an issue once he gets to Bloomington.

Zacharey Smith is the second cornerback to commit to IU in the 2025 class, joining fellow Georgia-native Jaylen Bell. IU now has four members of the secondary committed in this class and are expected to add another one or two prior to Signing Day.

Hoosier Huddle will have continuing coverage of the summer recruiting season.
