Hoosiers Land Freshman All-American DB Transfer D'Angelo Ponds

The Indiana Hoosiers have landed reinforcements for a depleted secondary as they land former JMU defensive back and freshman All-American D’Angelo Ponds.

Ponds is undersized at 5’9”, but is not afraid to tackle at all. He is very good in the open field and will likely play both boundary and nickel depending on matchups. Ponds has very good ball skills and projects as a very solid rotational piece this season at cornerback. He has three seasons of eligibility left.

In 2023 Ponds played in all 13 games for the James Madison Dukes. He made 51 tackles, two coming for a loss and had 13 pass breakups including two interceptions. Ponds also scored on a punt block on special teams in the win over Virginia.

During his prep career at Chaminade-Madonna in Florida, Ponds was a three-star recruit and also ran track where he won the Florida 1A state titles as a senior in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Ponds should be a top four corner for IU, if not battle for a starting spot. He will also be a difference maker on special teams.
