The Indiana Hoosiers got back to work on their 2020 recruiting class about a week ahead of the February Signing Day. On Monday evening the Hoosiers received a commitment from three-star defensive end Jalen Mayala. He made his announcement via Twitter.

His announcement reads:

“First things first, I want to thank god for all the trials and tribulations in my life as well as the blessings he has brought me up to this point in. None of this would be possible without him. I also want to thank Coach Dyer, Coach Goodwell, Coach Moore, for pouring into me in terms of more than football, their guidance and support played a big role in this stressful process.

A huge thank you to everyone who has played a role and supported in this journey. This process was not easy and I am grateful for the relationships built and the lessons I have learned. After lots of prayer, I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Indiana! #LEO #IUFB #GRIT”

Mayala is rated as a three-star (85.77) prospect by 247 Sports Composite rankings and the 44th best weak side defensive end nationally. He held 19 offers including Indiana, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Purdue, Rutgers, South Alabama, Syracuse, Troy, Central Florida, UCLA, Virginia and Wake Forest.

The six-foot-six defensive end will have to bulk up from his listed 218 pounds, but he has the length that Tom Allen and his staff are looking for. Playing for Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Mayala was mostly the stand-up edge rusher in their 3-4 defense. His abilities on the line are similar to current Hoosier defensive lineman Michael Ziemba. However, Mayala is much longer than Ziemba.
