Hoosier Huddle's IUFB Christmas Wishlist
/Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
It is getting close to the 11th hour to get our Christmas wishes into to Football Santa, but there is still time. Below is a wishlist from the Hoosier Huddle writers for IUFB this Christmas.
Dear Football Santa,
We know it’s a busy season for you and IU football has had many upgrades since Thanksgiving. However, there are several more items IUFB fans would like to see before Spring Football starts.
1. Reinforced Offensive and Defensive Lines
This is how Power Five football success ifs built, in the trenches. IU receoved Carter Smith back from the portal and gained Trey Wedig from Wisconsin, however the depth is thin and if the Hoosiers can get a couple ready to play big fellas up front, the offense should be good to go.
Defensively, IU needs big bodies upfront. The Hoosiers lost a handful of players upfront and need to get disruptive defensive linemen from the portal.
2. Elijah Sarratt
The James Madison wide receiver would be an excellent addition to the wide receiver room that Curt Cignetti and his staff have already put together. Sarratt ended the 2023 season with a 115-yard performance in the Armed Forces Bowl against Air Force.
3. Linebackers
You see a theme here. IU needs defensive playmakers and replacing Aaron Casey and Jacob Mangum-Farrar will not be an easy task. IU needs at least two linebackers who can be relied on to play major snaps in 2024.
4. A Real Spring Game
The buzz surrounding Indiana Football is peaking right now and it is time to take advantage. People want to come out and see newcomers like Kurtis Rourke and Myles Price. They also want to see familiar faces like Donaven McCulley and Trent Howland. People want to see what this staff brings to a scrimmage or a practice. They want to feel the energy. It’s time to bring back a spring game and put effort into making it an event for fans (tailgating, music and other festivities). It’s a chance for IU to continue to drum up excitement before August 31st.
5. Facility Upgrades
While it may be impossible to get this before the end of the 2024 calendar year, but it would be great to see a plan for a new or renovated practice facility, a new press box and in-stadium suites. All three of those items are longer term projects, but having a visual would also keep the momentum going.
The Hoosier Huddle team would like to wish all of our reader and followers a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza and a Happy New Year. If you have any other wishes for Football Santa, leave them in the comments. We’ll leave the Crumbl Cookies out.
