COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: # 66 (#25) – Daniel Weems
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 197 pounds
Hometown: Greenwood, Indiana
High School: Center Grove
Class/Position: Redshirt Sophomore / Running Back
A transfer from Indiana Wesleyan, Daniel Weems has reunited with his high school quarterback, Tayven Jackson, and looks to become a contributor in Indiana’s new look backfield.
During his time at Center Grove High School, Weems helped lead the Trojans to back-to-back Class 6A State Championships, winning 28 straight games over his junior and senior seasons. Over his high school career, Weems rushed for 2,854 yards on 531 carries, with 28 rushing touchdowns, and caught 31 passes for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns.
In 2022, as a freshman at Indiana Wesleyan, Weems played in 10 games where he had 441 yards and 5 touchdowns on 107 carries, finishing second among all three categories. Additionally, Weems caught 16 passes for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns. In 2023, Weems transferred to IU for his sophomore season, which he redshirted.
As a talented underclassman who already has chemistry and rapport with one of IU’s quarterbacks, Weems has the golden opportunity to play with and learn from veteran backs Ty Son Lawton, Justice Ellison, and Kaelon Black while playing beside his high school teammate. Weems could become a valuable practice player who earns his reps on special teams and may find his way on to the offense if there are some games that get out of hand.
