2022 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 31 Days (Bryant Fitzgerald)

Written by Zach Greene

Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2022 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2022 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Fighting Illini. Today we dive into one of the more experienced players in this program and leader Bryant Fitzgerald.

Name: Bryant Fitzgerald

Hometown: Avon

Position: Defensive Back

Year: Redshirt Senior +

Height/Weight: 6-0/203

Fitzgerald started in the Hoosier’s program all the way back in 2017 where he spent the whole season redshirting and gaining experience and practice. The following season (2018), he led the team with three interceptions and earned defensive player of the week honors against Minnesota. At the end of the year awards, he earned the Corby Davis Memorial Award for the most outstanding back.

His sophomore year (2019) was less productive. He recorded 27 tackles and had three pass breakups. He had a solid game in the Gator Bowl recording 5 tackles and pressing Tennessee’s wideouts. In the Covid 2020 season, he started in eight games at the husky position before moving to safety during the fall camp. Last season, was the best season that Fitz has had so far. He made 32 solo tackles playing the cornerback position as well as the husky. He was a leader on and off the field.

This season, Fitzgerald will once again be a leader. Defensive back is one of the deepest positions on this team and Fitzgerald is one guy who is going to lead. Going forward this unit needs to be productive to take this team to the glory land. Many have high hopes for this unit and reasonably so. If they can stay healthy expect this unit to be the one that changes the momentum of games.
