The Hoosier Huddle 100 day countdown has been trucking along for a while now, and at the end of the wait is going to be the long-anticipated 2021 Hoosier football season. Today, we’re taking a look at C.J. Person from Montgomery, Alabama.
Person, in his first serious playing time for Indiana, earned the defensive newcomer award in 2020. The young DL saw lots of game action, playing in eight games and even making his first career start at no. 16 Wisconsin. Person made eight tackles, five solo, a half for loss and one pass breakup at Wisconsin.
This upcoming season, Person will get his shot to be right up there with the big dogs. Person will likely fall within the depth chart among veterans such as James Head Jr, Demarcus Elliott, and Alfred Bryant. "We've got guys in that size range and athleticism that can play three (technique), that can play shade, that can play end, which doesn't make you feel like you're a one-single-point-of-failure defense," defensive coordinator Charlton Warren says. "I like the guys we have. I like the young guys we're developing."
Person is no stranger to excellence, even in high school. Being an all-state selection in Alabama, he played in the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game. He finished his high school career with 241 tackles, 150 solo, 15.5 sacks, 75 TFLs, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
