For four years, Wes Martin may have been the strongest player on the Indiana football roster. Martin developed his strength baling hay growing up on a dairy farm in West Milton, Ohio. He’s also very smart. Martin earned an Academic All-Big Ten selection all four years of college. He redshirted his first season in Bloomington. In 2015, Martin proved his worth right away. He played in 13 games and started six as a redshirt freshman. Martin played a key role in an Indiana offense which finished first in the Big Ten.

Throughout his final three years at Indiana, Martin was an anchor. He started in 37 games at left guard. In 2017, as a junior, Martin recorded the most blocking snaps (569) among guards nationally without allowing a sack. In 2018, Martin allowed just two sacks on over 900 snaps. His junior season was rewarded with an honorable mention for All-Big Ten Team. He earned the team’s Chris Dal Sasso Award for being the team’s most outstanding lineman. To cap off his career, Martin was again an honorable mention for the all-conference team. He was also a William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist. Martin was a 24-time game captain.

Entering Pro Day, the former IU lineman will try to impress scouts as he embarks on a professional football career. Martin isn’t letting this opportunity go to waste, as he’s supporting Brave Breed Rescue, a non-profit he founded that helps re-home dogs. It’s a great cause and as an IU alum, it’s always good to see philanthropic stories such as this. The Hoosiers will miss his rock solid play on the offensive line, and we wish the best for Wes Martin.
