Warren Ready to Battle in the Recruiting Ring for Indiana

When hiring a coordinator in college football one has to look for a candidate that knows the X’s and O’s and can win battles for the Jimmy’s and Joe’s. When Indiana hired Charlton Warren, the Hoosiers not only gained a fantastic on-field coach, but also one of the best recruiters in the nation.
Warren is currently ranked as the 23rd best recruiter nationally and the 8th best in the Big Ten. So what makes Warren successful on the recruiting trail? He is ready to battle.
“You have to swing, you have to get in the ring, and you have to be ready to battle.” Warren said. “To do that, I think that parents and kids care about real relationships. They do not care about you trying to sell them on anything. My job is not to sell a parent or a kid on anything. It is to present a tremendous opportunity for you to get a great education, be developed as a man, be developed as a football player and prepare you for what is next in life. That could be a husband, a doctor, a lawyer or an NFL football player.”
During the 2021 recruiting cycle, Warren landed three four-star recruits at Georgia and the goal is to bring those results to Indiana. Indiana has done a tremendous job of recruiting the family of players recently and Warren fits that mold. He is all about relationships.
“It is about the family saying they trust my son to come play for you and your organization and that you will do right by him. Kids and parents can weed out if you are not genuine. To me, it is about being who I am and being relentless in my pursuit to know him, the mom, the dad, the grandma, the auntie, the coach, the influencers in their life.” Warren explained. “When you build genuine relationships and people know that you care about them and their interests to make them better prepared for life, I think that is a home run. At that point it is about them making an informed decision.”
Warren doesn’t have a designated area he recruits from. He will go find good players even if he has to go to the edge of the map.
“I have recruited everywhere. I have been at some different places. Obviously, I have some strong ties being from the state of Georgia and being in the SEC for four years. I have recruited the state of Florida from my time being with the University of Florida. I have recruited nationally when it comes to defensive backs and skilled positions. For me, I can go recruit in Alaska if you need me to. If the player is good enough, I will go there.”
Warren is ready to get in the recruiting battles at IU. He may not win them all, but Warren said “if you do not try, you will not get any of them. We will try, we will get in the ring, we will throw our punches, and we are going to try to get the best young men for Indiana University to help us develop our team culture and help us win games in the future.”
