2021 IU Defensive Line Preview: More Production is Key to Creating Havoc

The perception of Indiana football has changed dramatically over recent years, but that will only remain if Indiana is able to consistently match up with its Big Ten East foes in the trenches.

“Anytime you can get production out of your defensive line, you can get more pass rush and you don't have to blitz to get the pass rush, it's a huge benefit,” said Indiana defensive line coach Kevin Peoples. “Those are things we're trying to work on. We're trying to make sure we're doing our job within the scheme and making the plays that come to us.”

Incoming transfer defensive lineman Jaren Handy is coming to hilly Bloomington from the plains of Auburn, Alabama. The first thing he talked about was the scenery surrounding the southern Indiana college town. “I love it. I know it's different from Auburn and stuff like that. But like for me, being from Mississippi, seeing trees and mountains. Just seeing deer in the yard, rabbits running around you will see that all the time so it's kind of different, but I like definitely like it.” Handy said. The Hoosiers aren’t looking for Handy to be a deer or a rabbit, they hope the big lineman to be a bear along the defensive line.

Hoosiers Land Auburn Transfer Jaren Handy

The Indiana Hoosiers received a commitment from Auburn transfer Jaren Handy on Wednesday evening. Handy, a former four-star recruit, is a sophomore and played the last two seasons for the Tigers. He has played in 14 career games and has 10 total tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack to his name.
