Special teams coach Kasey Teegardin is looking forward to a revamped spring teams and outside linebacker unit along with the programs highest ever rated recruiting class
“Really excited about the group of guys that we have, and we continue to recruit at a high level.” Teegardin said. “We recruited a walk-on to come in and compete for the punting and kickoff job, and I think he will do just that. Then, really excited about the BULLS we have on our board at this point and time. Just trying to recruit at a high level and recruit different style and type of players.”
Indiana came into spring camp as 26th best recruiting class in 2022. It’s highest ever, lead by Dasan McCullough who flipped on Ohio State during his Junior year of high school.
This spring camp is different from years past with the amount of talent. To add, there isn’t as much pressure and attention on the program. That said, players like Alfred Bryant are ready to take their game to the next level, says Teegardin.
“In the Bull room, talking outside linebackers, Lance [Alfred Bryant] is ready to take the next step. He knows that he is in position, but now he has to finish plays and take that next step with ownership there.” Teegardin explained. “Really excited about Myles Jackson, and I know coach [Tom Allen] is too. It is just the element that he brings. He is a different cat and that is the best way I can explain it. He is different and it is what this program needed. He is going to make us a better football team. Then, Andrew Turvey, a walk-on from Indianapolis, is rounding us out right now until we get Richard Thomas here and can start getting him some reps.”
Spring camp is filled with competition. There aren't a whole lot of front-line starters at the moment and with so many transfers like Myles Jackson from UCLA it will be a dawg battle for playing time. He is excited to be in a new program.
“One thing I have learned through my career and my experiences is that no matter who you are, if you know what the right things and what the standards for the program are, you can come in and help, make an impact and hold everybody else to the same standard. I know everyone is trying to win, so I am just trying to help my teammates meet the standard.” Jackson said.
It will be interesting to see who stands out during spring camp. Since there will be no spring game it will be hard for fans to get a glimpse of what we should expect Week 1 against Illinois. Stayed tuned to Hoosier Huddle for all things IU football and updates on spring camp.
