While the Indiana Hoosier football team prepares to take the field for spring practice on Tuesday, All-Big Ten quarterback Michael Penix will be working hard rehabbing his knee to get back for the 2021 season opener at Iowa. Penix hurt his knee in late November against Maryland.

“He's done a tremendous job of following everything we've asked him to do from a medical perspective.” Allen explained. “Been meeting with him, meeting with the staff and just different things to just get him mentally growing and developing as a leader, growing and developing in his understanding of defenses and all of the different things he has to do to run the offense.”

The goal for Penix this spring, according to Allen, is to keep progressing and building in his rehabilitation. Allen just wants “him to be extremely diligent in those areas and just want to see him keep growing, like all of our guys. I just want him to take another step in his growth and the holistic part of how he has to approach the game and be able to get where he needs to be. We expect him to be ready to play to start the season.”

Allen explained that Penix “will definitely not be taking any reps with anybody around him. Definitely going to throw some footballs around and things like that.”

The good news for Hoosier fans is that Allen is “very optimistic about his availability. We're expecting him to be full bore when the season starts.”
