HUDL Highlights (Junior Season)
Trenten Howland from Joliet, Illinois will be signing with the Hoosiers. Howland was recruited as an athlete, although he primarily played running back in high school. He chose Indiana over offers from Nebraska, Purdue, Iowa State, Minnesota and others. Howland was ranked by 247Sports as the 12th best player in Illinois and the 54th best athlete in the country.
While the Hoosiers 2021 class is small, the talent level is high. Howland is no exception at 6-foot-2 218-pounds. The versatile athlete also thrived on the basketball court. Howland is a very physical player, and while he was a half back, he is more than capable of playing other positions on the football field.
Howland used his size to bully high school defenders and was a punishing runner at that level. Whether or not he can prove he has the agility of a Big Ten running back will likely determine what position he plays at IU.
It’s unclear if Howland will follow in Stevie Scotts footsteps and become a power running back, or if he’ll be developed into a linebacker. Whatever future awaits Trenten Howland, his frame and skillset will be put to good use in Bloomington.
