The 2020 season has gone spectacularly well for the Indiana Hoosiers. That being said, not every position group will receive high marks for their play. Perhaps no position group has struggled more than the offensive line. The Hoosiers brought in a lot of linemen in the 2020 class, including a couple of transfers, but Indiana is still searching for an upgrade of depth and talent and some future starters along the line. Tom Allen and crew hope they found one in Brownsburg’s Joshua Sales. The 6’6” tackle is originally from South Bend and he chose the Hoosiers over Arizona State, Purdue and others after a hard-fought recruiting battle. Mike Hart and Darren Hiller were the chief recruiters for this talented prospect that has the ideal size for a starting tackle.
Sales showed physicality and a nasty streak while reviewing his high school footage. He appears to have good balance and moves well for a young man of his size. Increasing his strength will be the priority for Aaron Wellman and the strength staff, something that should not be a problem given his frame. Caleb Jones, Luke Haggard and Matthew Bedford are all around for another season. The staff is high on the future of young players Randy Holtz and Kahlil Benson as well. It seems likely that Sales will redshirt in 2021 and learn behind a veteran line before competing with Holtz, Benson and others for a starting position before the 2022 season. Long term, Sales projects as a starting left tackle that the Hoosiers hope develops into a cornerstone piece of their offensive line.
