IU Adds Another Portal Safety as Terry Jones Commits

Written by: TJ Inman

New IU head football coach Curt Cignetti continues to remake the Indiana roster and Thursday evening has proven to be another productive evening for the Cream and Crimson. Shortly after getting a commitment from Old Dominion starting safety Shawn Asbury, the Hoosiers landed a commitment from the other starting safety for the Monarchs. Terry Jones, a 6’1” native of Baltimore, will play his final season at Indiana.

Jones had 107 tackles in 2023 including 30 solo stops. Combined, Jones and Asbury had 200 tackles on the year. Jones also added four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He started 26 games for Old Dominion and helped them reach a bowl game this past season. Both Asbury and Jones were named to the All-Sun Belt team.

The two help shore up a thin safety group and continue to bolster the Indiana defensive depth. A number of transfers are on campus this week as IU tries to round out a top ten portal recruiting class and prepare for the 2024 season. Hoosier Huddle will cover any additional commitments and provide coverage of the remaining offseason.
