The Indiana Hoosiers have finally received some good news when it came to their injured quarterbacks when head coach Kevin Wilson met with members of the media on January 10th and announced that both rising senior starting quarterback Nate Sudfeld and rising sophomore backup Chris Covington will be available to participate in spring practice. Wilson said he talked to Sudfeld, who separated his shoulder in a loss at Iowa in early October,  “the other day and he’s doing OK. He’s going to be able to do everything with limitations. It will be like ‘Today you cannot bench but you can do this exercise.’ But he’s not going to be on his own.’’ Covington, who injured his knee in the same game, missed the last six games of the season because the injury required surgery. Wilson added that both quarterbacks would be able to practice but will be limited in contact. However, the Hoosiers have a do not hit the quarterback rule in place anyway so it should not be too much of an issue.

This is terrific news for the Hoosiers, as both quarterbacks will need to shake off the rust from missing the second half of the 2014 season and reestablishes a connection with a core group of young receivers. It will also allow Covington, a converted linebacker, to refine his skills at the quarterback position. Wilson will probably limit Covington to “throws rather than have him running around and doing sudden breaking.’’

In other injury related news redshirt freshman running back Tommy Mister, a highly regarded recruit out of Illinois will be healthy coming off a knee injury that caused him to miss the entire 2014 season. He will be a full go, according to Wilson, for spring practice. He will be competing for playing time with UAB transfer Jordan Howard and sophomore Devine Redding. IU did however obtain some bad news on the injury front when Wilson ruled back up offensive lineman Jacob Bailey out for the spring with a knee injury. This could really reduce Bailey’s playing time if some of the new comers and redshirt freshman can show the coaching staff they belong on the field.
