Earlier this recruiting cycle Indiana head coach Tom Allen said that IU was looking to add both a transfer and a high school quarterback to the 2022 signing class. A few weeks ago IU signed Connor Bazelak, a transfer from Missouri and on Sunday morning, Allen received a commitment from three-star prospect Brendan Sorsby out of Lake Dallas, Texas.

Sorsby choose IU over offers from eight other schools including Army, Navy and a handful of other smaller programs. IU was his only Power Five offer. Sorsby became the starter at Lake Dallas lake in his junior season and threw for 851 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions while running for 240 yards and two more touchdowns. He had a much better senior season that saw him make an impact both through the air and on the ground. In 2021, Sorsby threw for 1,271 yards with 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He was also a force on the ground, rushing for 791 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is a true dual threat quarterback, which is what Tom Allen is looking for in a quarterback.

“I’m not one of those guys who is always looking to run first. I love throwing the football. But I do enjoy running if coach calls a play like that,” Sorsby said in an article by Steven Gamel in the Denton Record-Chronical. “I’ve worked hard to get bigger, faster and stronger — just like everyone else has — and I think it’s going to be very hard to stop us this season. At the end of the day, I don’t care about the stats. I just want to win.”

In high school Sorsby was not only proud of his skills on the field, but of his mullet he sported to stand out.

“I’ve got a mullet that I love. I cherish it; it helps me stand out,” Sorsby said in the Gamel article. ““It perfectly hangs out the back of my helmet, my dad wants me to cut it, but I’m like, ‘Dad, you just don’t understand.’ I want them all to call me ‘The Mullet’ when it’s all said and done. I’ve got a good thing going.”

Sorsby will join a room that has four other scholarship quarterbacks, so he should have plenty of time to grow and develop into a Big Ten level quarterback.
