The Indiana Hoosiers picked up their 13th commitment of the 2022 class in Phillip Dunnam, a defensive back out of North Miami Beach Senior High School. Dunnam is an under the radar pick up for the Hoosiers as he is unrated by the major recruiting services even though his tape shows his skills.

Dunnam was a Miami Herald All-Dade 5A-Ind. first-team selection as an athlete. He Got snaps at wide receiver and corner. IU will move him over to safety and reminds people of Jamar Johnson. Dunnam also served as his team’s primary return man and caught 42 passes for 710 yards and 10 touchdowns in seven games for a North Miami Beach squad that played for a South Florida 6A-1A tri-county title during pandemic-shortened season. Also picked off three passes on defense.

Dunnam had 12 total offers including from Power Five schools Florida State and Syracuse.

Dunnam’s primary recruiter to IU was safeties coach Jason Jones. Dunnam told 247Sports’ Andrew Ivans that “Coach [Jason] Jones called me one day and was saying how he had a whole list of guys that he had to go through and then he juts came across my name. He said he was looking for a safety like me – one with good ball skills, length and size. He told me that they have some guys leaving, so that if I wanted to come in and work, I could probably see the field early. He was also telling me about Indiana and how its' a small, tight-knit group of guys and how the roster is full of Florida boys. He also said that they want to develop you as a man ... I just fell in love with all that."

Indiana’s class of 2022 still sits at 24th nationally and 6th in the Big Ten as the recruiting rankings await an evaluation on Dunnam.
