Curt Cignetti Staff Profiles: Defensive End’s Coach Buddha Williams

As of Wednesday, Curt Cignetti’s staff is official and formally announced to the public (though the deals had been reported prior to today). One of these new faces to the staff will be Buddha Williams who will bring his knowledge of the game, particularly the defensive line, to the Hoosiers as defensive end's coach.

The past two seasons Williams served in the same role at Colorado State producing the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in Mohamed Kamara. Williams is credited with helping Kamara develop his game. He has an impressive track record of developing defensive linemen going back to his days at North Dakota State. His knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the team to reach new heights and goals. 

Before his tenure at Colorado State, Williams coached in the same role at North Dakota State from 2017-2021. Here is a list of his coaching experience below. 

  • University of Charleston 2010: Linebackers

  • Ashland (Ohio) University 2011: Graduate Assistant – Defense

  • Ohio University 2012-13: Graduate Assistant – Defense

  • University of Illinois 2014-15: Graduate Assistant – Defense

  • University of Tennessee-Martin 2016: Defensive Line

  • North Dakota State University 2017-21: Defensive Ends

  • Colorado State University 2022-23: Defensive Line

  • Indiana University 2024-: Defensive Ends

He is expected to bring the same level of success to the Hoosiers.  With a rebuild fully underway for the program, he will also be tasked with recruiting top talent and developing a strong culture within the program.
