We are chugging along and have passed the 80’s and move to 79 days until the Indiana Hoosiers host the Ohio State Buckeyes in the most anticipated home opener in IU Football history. Today we are going to take a look into incoming freshman defensive lineman Lance Bryant.
Lance Bryant
-Height: 6’2”
-Weight: 245 pounds
-Hometown: Fresno, Texas
-Position: Defensive End
The Indiana Hoosiers have lacked a true edge rusher since Jammie Kirlew was terrorizing Big Ten quarterbacks from 2005-2009, but Lance Bryant could be the speed off the edge the Hoosier defense needs to take the next step.
Bryant had a terrific high school career at Manvel, where he was teammates with current IU offensive lineman Mackenzie Nworah, finishing with 120 tackles, 38 TFLs, 22 sacks, 86 QB hurries, and three fumble recoveries. His production led his team to a 55-5 record in his three seasons and won two district titles and appeared in three straight regional finals.
Bryant committed to the Hoosiers in July of 2016 and was high on IU before stepping on campus. He told CBSSports.com that IU is "coming up in Big Ten football and I wanted to be a part of it.”
Bryant has a chance to be an instant impact player with his skill set. He may be a little light at 245 pounds, but with a couple months in the IU strength program he should be ready to see the field in 2017, even if it is just in pass rushing situations.
Share your thoughts or expectations for Lance Bryant and let us know if you think he can be the difference maker IU needs off the edge (or on the message boards) and be sure to come back to Hoosier Huddle each day during our countdown!
