Another member of the ‘Sunshine Pipeline’, Antoine Whitner came to Bloomington from Bradenton, Florida. The 6’5” Whitner played both offensive line and defensive line for Kevin Wright at the IMG Academy. Wright is now Indiana’s tight ends coach. Whitner will be playing on the defensive side the of the ball in college.
After taking a redshirt year in 2019, Whitner will look to find a way into the rotation at defensive tackle this season. Whitner is a gifted athlete with plenty of raw talent. Coming out of high school, the young lineman was a top-1,000 player nationally and consensus three-star prospect.
Back on National Signing Day when Whitner joined the Hoosiers, Coach Tom Allen his this to say: “Antoine Whitner, another guy, when you talk about replacing some of those interior defensive line guys, I think could be in the mix for sure.” Whitner probably could have contributed last year in a pinch, but IU is focused on his long-term development. With a year of college weight training under his belt, Whitner is ready to compete on Saturdays.
