Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 47 Days (Micah McFadden)
/Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
With no official announcement on a change for the 2020 season opener, we continue our journey towards September 4th when the Hoosiers are scheduled to kick-off against the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison. We are 47 days away, so naturally we highlight number 47, Micah McFadden.
Name – Micah McFadden
Position – Linebacker
Year/Hometown – Junior from Tampa, Florida
Height – 6’2”
Weight – 239 pounds
McFadden came to IU as a tackling machine at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. He made a program record 211 tackles as a senior in 2017. McFadden has brought that tenacity north to Bloomington where he made 20 tackles in a reserve role in 2018 and led the team in stops in 2019 with 61 which included 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions. McFadden earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and was named Indiana’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2019.
McFadden is back for his junior season and is now the elder statesman in the linebacker room. A room that is turning into the strength of the IU defense once again. Allen talked about the importance of the linebacking group before spring practice was cut short, “if you want to have a great defense, you better have great linebackers.”
McFadden will play a major part in the IU defense and should be primed for another All-Big Ten caliber season in the middle of IU’s defense. McFadden also excelled off the field as an Academic All-Big Ten selection as well.
