Countdown to 2019 IUFB Kickoff: 49 Days (Madison Norris)

#49 – Madison Norris (Redshirt Freshman)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 206 Pounds
Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana
Position: Defensive End
Madison Norris was one of the most intriguing recruits in recent memory. The multi-sport athlete chose the Hoosiers over a number of offers from schools such as Missouri, Tennessee, Purdue and more. Norris was one of the top-five players in the state of Indiana for the class of 2018. The Indianapolis native played his high school ball at Hamilton Southeastern High School. Although football might not even be his best sport. Norris is a state champion hurdler. That’s right. The 6-foot-5 defensive end won the state championship in hurdles as a senior.
His athleticism speaks for itself, but at 206-pounds, Norris needed to use a redshirt to improve his size. As the 2019 season approaches, Norris will have a chance to prove his worth.
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack spoke to what kind of weapon Norris can become off the edge for IU, "He's got a burst, he obviously needs to get his weight up. He's a guy that we knew was a developmental player that we can use situationally until he got to the size that we need for an every down defensive end. To his credit, he's put more weight on every day. He puts a different burst on the edge for us right now. It's another one of those young guys that is starting to play with more and more confidence where he goes 'Oh, I can pass rush at this level.'"
The speedster will earn his keep as an edge rusher. Hoosier fans ought to pay attention to Madison Norris, because he could become a major weapon for the IU defense. He played in one game as a true freshman in 2018, preserving his redshirt.
