Earlier this spring former Hoosier football player and Indianapolis entrepreneur Chris Beaty was shot and killed trying to break up a robbery outside of his apartment during the George Floyd protests in downtown Indianapolis. Marcus Allen was charged on Wednesday with murder, felony murder, robbery and pointing a firearm in his alleged role in the crime according to the Marion County prosecutor.

“The tragic loss of Chris Beaty has had a tremendous impact on the Indianapolis community,” Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement.

Beaty was 38 years old and played for the Hoosiers from 2000-2004 and helped bring three state titles to Cathedral during his time as a student there from 1996-99. After football Beaty founded Fresh Marketing, LLC, an event promotion company and co-hosted the “Digital Universe” online talk show.

To honor Beaty, the Indiana University football media guide is dedicated to his memory and local t-shirt company Homefield Apparel made shirts to raise money for a scholarship fund in his memory at both IU and Cathedral High School.
