Catching Up with IU Running Back Commit Ronnie Walker
/Written by Kris Shankle
If you’re an IU fan and haven’t heard of Ronnie Walker, chances are you’re are currently not reading this and probably under a rock somewhere. Walker is a 5’10 playmaker who choose the Hoosiers over the likes of UVA, MSU, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Wake Forest and other power 5 schools. He is one of the highest rated recruits to ever step foot in Bloomington as the 323rd best player in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings and will be looking to make an immediate impact.
I had the chance to ask the RB some questions about his ongoing season and the future:
How would you describe your senior season so far and what are some of the accomplishments you’re looking to achieve?
“I think my senior year is going well, I will like to accomplish 1,000 rushing yards before the regular season ends and maintain a 4.0 GPA.”
What stood out the most about IU from the other schools during the recruiting process?
“What really stood out to me, was the fact that the staff has a 100% graduation rate in the last 4 years.”
Watching the current backfield and the incoming guys, what are you looking forward to adding?
“I’m a(n) every down back and I’m willing to get the job done no matter the cost. I also can make a big play to help spring the offense.”
Besides football, what things do you like to do in your free time?
“I like to go to church, train and be around my family.”
One thing that sticks out about this young man that really impresses me, is the fact that being highly ranked, he still spends a lot of time focusing on school. He is going to be a major addition on and off the field and Tom Allen has really made that a trend in most of these kids he is recruiting. Joining Morgan Ellison and co in the backfield next year, Walker who is well on his way to reaching his 1,000-yard goal with 818 rushing yards so far.
