BOOM! Hoosiers Head Back to Sunshine State, Add Michael Ziemba

Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers have had a whole lot of success recruiting in the Sunshine State recently. Guys like T.J. Simmons, Ricky Jones, Jonathan Crawford, Nick Westbrook, Reakwon Jones and more have all made the trek from Florida to Bloomington. IU has clearly made the state a priority and that budding pipeline added another name to the list as Michael Ziemba, a 3-star prospect from Lake Mary, Florida, committed to Kevin Wilson and his staff.

Ziemba, a 6’3”, 260-pound prospect, is listed by recruiting services as a tight end but he told our Sammy Jacobs that the Hoosiers offered him as a defensive end and he anticipates lining up for Mark Hagen’s defensive line when he suits up for the Cream and Crimson. Ziemba chose IU over offers from Syracuse, East Carolina, Cincinnait, Purdue and a bevy of schools in the Southeast. Following his junior season, Ziemba was named a First Team All-District tight end after finishing with 300 receiving yards and four touchdowns. In addition, he was a First Team All-Conference linebacker as he notched 53 tackles. Ziemba’s highlight film showed him to be a player willing and capable of landing crunching blocks and hard-hitting tackles. There was more than one play on his film that illustrated good defensive instincts and ability to pursue the ball and finish the play with a big hit. He doesn’t appear to have blazing speed but it’s clear he’s an intense and tenacious player that should fit in as a member of Tom Allen’s defense. His commitment makes him the 12th member of the 2017 class.
