BOOM! Hoosiers add Indy-area O-Lineman Caleb Jones

The Indiana Hoosiers 2017 recruiting class has focused heavily on the defensive side of the ball. However, the Hoosiers added a lineman for the other side of the ball on Tuesday as Lawrence North High School’s Caleb Jones became the 13th commitment for the 2017 class. Jones is a 6’9” offensive tackle that is rated as the 6th best prospect in the state by 247sports.com. He chose the Hoosiers over offers from Purdue, Cincinnati and several MAC schools.

Jones is a massive prospect with a whole lot of potential. He is currently 6’9” and 355 pounds as he enters his final season for LN’s head coach, Patrick Mallory. Mallory, a former offensive lineman at Indiana, runs a ground-based attack that relies on Jones to be a road-grater and open up holes for the running backs.

“We really pride ourselves on running people into the dirt and running as many plays as we can,” Jones told the Indy Star.

Despite his size, Jones moves his feet well and he does a nice job of using his frame and length to keep opposing linemen at bay. The biggest issue, no pun intended, for him as he enters college will likely be his weight as he’ll need to stay in excellent shape to play in IU’s uptempo attack. Jones is a hard worker (he’s worked at his father’s restaurant, His Place Eatery in Indianapolis, since he was ten years old) with a ton of potential and he’ll help ensure the Hoosiers dominance along the offensive line won’t be going away anytime soon.
