Aaron Casey Represents IU at 2024 NFL Combine

Written by Evan Alvarez

Aaron Casey is an Indiana football legend. He was the first ever recipient of the George Taliaferro Award, donning the historic #44, he became the 12th linebacker in Indiana history to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors, and he was a regular team captain and leader during his time in Bloomington. His impact was special and he will not be forgotten.

Now, Casey is looking to take a jump to playing on Sunday’s and took the first step yesterday through participation in the 2024 NFL Combine. Across the events recorded yesterday, Casey performed as follows:

40-Yard Dash and 10-Yard Split:

Casey finished 14th among linebackers at the Combine with a 4.75 second 40 time, but his 10-yard split time was 8th at 1.59 seconds, showing Casey’s quick burst. The top scores for these two times, respectively, were Payton Wilson (NC State, 4.43) and Tyrice Knight (UTEP, 1.54).

Vertical Jump:

Casey finished 17th among linebackers at the Combine with a 30-inch vertical recorded. The top score was registered by Edefuan Ulofoshio (Washington) at 39.50 inches.

Broad Jump:

Casey finished 11th among linebackers at the Combine with a 9-foot 9-inch broad jump. The top score was achieved by Edefuan Ulofoshio (Washington) at 10 feet and 8 inches.

NFL Projection:

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein projects Casey to be an “Average Backup or Special-Teamer”, describing him as a heavy tackler who is extremely physical, one who challenges blocks with consistent thump and aggression, and a potential blitzer who can create pressure opportunities with his agility and strength.

Regarding areas for improvement, Lance cites play recognition and awareness as a zone defender. Fortunately, these are areas that can easily be grown with strong coaching and development.

Casey’s production is no joke and his motor is second to none. Whichever team is lucky enough to have him join their squad will strike gold in their decision.
