2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 3 Days (Omar Cooper Jr.)
/Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
It is just three more days until the start of the 2024 Indiana Hoosiers football season. As the Countdown to IUFB Kickoff gets closer to the end, we look at two players who will be wearing number three for the Hoosiers. First up is Indianapolis native, Omar Cooper Jr.
COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: #3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 200 pounds
Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana (Lawrence North)
Class/Position: RS Sophomore/ Wide Receiver
Cooper was a highly-touted recruiting win for former Indiana head coach Tom Allen. He is entering his third season with the Hoosiers and 2024 looks to be the year he puts it all together. Cooper played in four games as a true freshman in 2022.
In 2023, it looked like Cooper was poised to take over a starting spot late in the season before an injury knocked him out the final three games. He made 18 catches for 267 yards and two touchdowns. He improved every week and had a breakout game against Penn State.
A lack of playing time took a toll on Cooper’s confidence, but he is coming into 2024 feeling much better about his game.
“ Last year, at first I wasn't playing as much so my confidence got pretty low, so this spring coming into the year I was just focusing on that and just trying to get better with each and every day. So, that's something that will help me with my role and just playing as hard as I can.” Cooper said during fall camp.
The Hoosiers will play plenty of wideouts in the new offense and Cooper has been battling for a starting role, however his versatility will make it easy for coaches to place him all over the field.
