2022 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 48 Days (James Bomba)

Written by Andrew Walker

The Hoosier Huddle 100-day countdown is just over halfway done and we’re moving right along. James Bomba is our next target of discussion as we move past the halfway point. The young redshirt freshman should be poised to make some impact this season.

Name: James Bomba

Hometown: Bloomington, IN

Position: TE

Year: Redshirt Freshman

Height: 6’6

Weight: 246

James Bomba is a redshirt freshman playing tight end for Indiana. Formerly at Miami University in Ohio, then transferring to Indiana, he didn’t see any game action for the 2021 season. However, he was the scout team player of the week during the Minnesota week. Bomba, a walk on, is just the right size and weight at tight end that head coach Tom Allen should be excited about. The young prospect may have been a walk on, but he’s got a lot of work to do before his size and strength can be used effectively.

Bomba’s high school career was interestingly quite close to Memorial Stadium. He was a TE for head coach Mo Moriarty at Bloomington South High School. He earned team captain honors as a senior, along with being named the team’s most valuable player as a senior. He rounded out his high school career as a two-time all-state selection and two-time all-conference honoree.

Bomba’s name should be familiar to IU fans as his father Matt played at IU from 1990-92 and his mother Kelli is an executive associate athletic director at IU. Matt’s two grandfathers also lettered at IU, so the crimson and cream runs thick in his blood.
