While recruiting for the class of 2017 comes to a close in a few days, Coach Allen and his staff are already working hard to land some talent in 2018. One player that has seen his recruitment pick up of late added an Indiana offer on Thursday, and we were able to speak with him for a little bit to get his thoughts on Indiana, the offer, his timeline and more.

Noah Shannon is a 6’2” 270 pound defensive tackle from Oswego High School in Oswego, Illinois. As of now, he projects as an interior pass rusher, as his quick first step and strong swim move pair nicely together as a signature combo. His performance at camps near Chicago have seen him gather more recruiting interest, and he will likely end with more than just 5 offers before he commits. While currently unranked, Shannon will likely end up as at least a three-star as he adds to his offer list of Iowa, Iowa State, Central Michigan, and Northern Illinois. Indiana has placed serious emphasis on recruiting the defensive line in the 2017 class since Tom Allen arrived, and it appears that this trend will continue under his tenure beyond 2017. Shannon’s versatility is the most attractive part of his game in my opinion, and a good comparison to his play style would be Robert McCray. His speed causes problems for slower guys on the inside, and his size presents problems for the tackles when he shifts outside.

Shannon is“not too familiar with IU as a school, but I’ve heard good things about it from people saying that it is a good school and there’s a lot to do on campus. The offer means a ton, because it’s my second Big Ten offer, and I tend to catch myself watching a lot of Indiana’s games on Saturdays.”

His primary recruiter, defensive line coach Mark Hagen, has told him “a little about himself and how he has been coaching at a couple different schools over the past years. He also told me that IU’s defense had tended to be a weakness in the past, but this year they made a big increase in their play and only look to get better.”

Shannon, who is interested in IU, has "five (offers) right now, and plan on committing before our first game next year. If that doesn’t work out, then I will whenever I feel comfortable.”
